About this place
Gappo Ginza’s signature shrimp bucket brings steamed and fried shrimp together on one platter. The menu lists sizes of 8 and 12 shrimp, making it an easy dish to share. One diner who ordered 8 pieces recalled pairing the steamed shrimp with salt and the fried shrimp with tartare sauce, and enjoying salsa sauce as well. With two preparations of shrimp in one order, it makes a natural centrepiece before moving on to teppan dishes and smaller plates.
Teppan-grilled options include Kuroge wagyu ichibo (rump cap), Hinata chicken from Miyazaki, Kirishima pork tenderloin and a rare steak of bluefin tuna otoro (fatty tuna). A diner who tried both the Kuroge wagyu ichibo and teppan-grilled otoro reported that each left a strong impression. Build a meal around the beef, or put seafood first with the otoro and shrimp.
Beyond shrimp, warm dishes to enjoy with wine include lobster croquettes and skin-on fries flavoured with truffle. A diner who ordered both remarked on their rich flavours. For a more substantial meal, options include rocket salad with apple and Gorgonzola, and garlic rice with beef tendon and Kujo spring onions.
There is a broad wine selection. The menu says natural wines are available by the glass, including red, white, orange and rosé styles. Other drinks include lemon sours in dry and sweet versions, as well as Earl Grey lemon sour. Diners can order à la carte, or choose a course with all-you-can-drink beverages that includes the shrimp bucket and teppan dishes. The restaurant also has private rooms with sunken kotatsu seating; groups planning a meal or business gathering can consider booking.
